Strategic IT guidance — from people who actually implement it.
Technology roadmaps, vendor evaluations, budget planning, and project oversight. We don't just advise — we do the work. CyteWorks has been helping Kansas City businesses make smart technology decisions since 2001.
IT consulting that leads to real outcomes.
We don't produce reports that sit on a shelf. Every engagement we take on is tied to a concrete outcome — a decision made, a project executed, or a problem solved. Here is what that looks like in practice.
Technology Roadmap Development
A 12–36 month technology plan aligned to your business goals and budget. We document your current state, identify gaps and risks, and build a prioritized roadmap with realistic cost estimates. Updated annually as your business evolves.
Vendor Evaluation & Selection
Objective evaluation of software, hardware, and service vendors. We don't take referral fees or vendor commissions — our recommendations are based entirely on what is right for your business. We have evaluated hundreds of solutions for Kansas City businesses over 25 years.
IT Budget Planning
Annual IT budget development with realistic cost projections for hardware refresh cycles, software licensing, and support costs. We help you plan for technology investments before they become emergencies.
Project Oversight & Management
For larger technology projects — ERP implementations, office moves, infrastructure rebuilds — we provide project management and technical oversight. We work alongside your internal team and external vendors to keep projects on track.
Security Risk Assessment
A structured review of your current security posture — network, endpoint, identity, and data. We identify your highest-risk exposures and give you a prioritized remediation plan with realistic cost estimates.
vCIO Services
Fractional CIO services for businesses that need strategic IT leadership without a full-time hire. We attend leadership meetings, advise on technology decisions, and serve as your technology advocate with vendors and stakeholders.
We listen before we build anything.
Most IT consultants show up with a pre-packaged recommendation and work backward to justify it. We do the opposite. We start by understanding how your business actually operates — your workflows, your constraints, your risk tolerance, and your budget — before we recommend anything.
And because we also do the implementation work, our recommendations are grounded in reality. We know what things actually cost, how long they actually take, and what the real-world complications are. We don't recommend solutions we can't execute.
IT consulting questions from Kansas City businesses.
What is the difference between IT consulting and managed IT support?
Managed IT support is ongoing — we monitor, maintain, and support your technology day-to-day. IT consulting is project-based — we help you make strategic decisions, plan technology investments, and oversee specific initiatives. Many of our clients use both: managed support for day-to-day operations and consulting for strategic planning and larger projects.
Do you work with businesses that already have an internal IT person?
Yes. We frequently work alongside internal IT staff — providing strategic guidance, specialized expertise, or project capacity that the internal team doesn't have. We're not here to replace your IT person; we're here to make them more effective.
How do you charge for consulting work?
Consulting engagements are typically scoped and priced as fixed-fee projects — you know what you're getting and what it costs before we start. For ongoing vCIO relationships, we use a monthly retainer. We don't bill by the hour for most consulting work because it creates the wrong incentives.
